The 18th and 19th century, after valuable lead ore had been removed from Dubuque's hilltop mines, it was brought to the Old Shot Tower to be transformed in to lead bullets. Today, the Old Shot Tower still stands, and visitors can marvel at the antiquated way bullets were once formed. The tower is located near the riverfront in the city center area.
